Which lifting equipment do I need to move my concrete slab safely?

The right choice depends on the concrete slab and the intended handling method. Betonblock® offers a vacuum lifter for lifting slabs directly from their surface, as well as a system using a cast-in profile and lifting chain. The profile is incorporated into the slab during casting and can later be used together with the lifting chain. Always consider the weight, dimensions and intended method of moving the concrete slab when selecting lifting equipment.

 

When should I use a vacuum lifter and when should I use a cast-in profile with a lifting chain?

A vacuum lifter is particularly useful when concrete slabs need to be lifted and positioned directly by their surface. The Betonblock® vacuum lifter can lift slabs weighing up to 1,700 kg. A cast-in profile with lifting chain is a practical solution when you want to incorporate a lifting point into the slab during production. The lifting chain connects to the cast-in profile, allowing the slab to be lifted and moved with a forklift.

 

Which cast-in profile do I need for my slab: 14 cm or 16 cm?

Betonblock® offers cast-in profiles in heights of 14 cm and 16 cm. The correct version depends on the thickness of the concrete slab and the slab mould being used. A 14 cm slab requires the corresponding 14 cm profile, while a 16 cm slab uses the 16 cm version. Always check the slab thickness and mould dimensions before selecting the profile.

 

How do I use a cast-in profile and lifting chain to move a concrete slab?

The cast-in profile is positioned and incorporated into the concrete slab during casting. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently, the compatible Betonblock® lifting chain can be attached to the profile. The slab can then be lifted and moved using a forklift. Before every lifting operation, check that the profile, chain and connection are in good condition and suitable for the concrete slab being handled.

 

Can the vacuum lifter also be used for concrete slabs with an uneven or rough surface?

Yes. According to Betonblock®, the vacuum lifter is designed to handle concrete slabs that are not completely even. This makes it suitable for different slab surfaces. Whether a particular slab can be lifted safely still depends on the actual surface and the vacuum that can be achieved. Always check that sufficient suction has been established before fully lifting the slab.
