Concrete blocks are heavy and must therefore be moved using the correct lifting equipment. Depending on the weight, dimensions and how you want to lift the block, you can use concrete block clamps, lifting beams, lifting chains and cast-in lifting anchors, among other options. Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about Betonblock® lifting equipment.
Concrete blocks can be lifted in several ways. A concrete block clamp grips the block on the outside and can be connected to a suitable lifting vehicle using a compatible lifting beam. Another option is to install lifting anchors in the concrete block during pouring. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently, suitable lifting hooks and lifting chains can be attached to these anchors. Another method is to fit a rotator to a forklift. This allows you to lift, tilt and rotate a block at the same time. The best method depends on the weight, dimensions and intended application of the block. Before every lifting operation, always check the permitted load of all components being used and make sure nobody is standing beneath a suspended load.
Choose a concrete block clamp based on both the width and the weight of the block. The CL40 has a clamping range of 30 to 40 cm and a maximum load capacity of 2,000 kg. The CL60 is suitable for blocks 30 to 60 cm wide and has a maximum load capacity of 2,500 kg. The CL80 has a clamping range of 40 to 80 cm and can carry a maximum load of 3,750 kg. The weight of your concrete block must always remain within the maximum load capacity of the selected clamp and all other lifting equipment.
The CL40 is suitable for blocks measuring 30 and 40 cm wide.
The CL60 is suitable for blocks measuring 30, 40, 50 and 60 cm wide.
The CL80 is suitable for blocks measuring 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 cm wide.
You do not automatically need every type of lifting equipment. The components required depend on the lifting method you choose. For example, a concrete block clamp is used with a compatible lifting beam and a suitable lifting vehicle. If you choose cast-in spherical head anchors, you will need suitable lifting hooks and a compatible lifting chain, among other components, in addition to the anchors. Always assemble the complete lifting system according to the block and the way you intend to move it.
Betonblock® offers various solutions for moving concrete blocks. There are three main methods: using anchors, a clamp or a rotator. The range includes concrete block clamps, rotators, single and double lifting beams, lifting chains, spherical head anchors, magnets, rubber sleeves and universal lifting hooks, among other products. Spare parts, such as rubber pads for concrete block clamps, are also available. This allows you to assemble a lifting solution that suits your concrete blocks and working methods.
First, check the weight and dimensions of the concrete block. Then choose lifting equipment whose working range and permitted load capacity are suitable for the block. Consider the entire lifting system: not only the clamp or anchor, but also the lifting beam, chain, lifting hook, lifting vehicle and any other connections must be suitable for the load. Never exceed the stated maximum load capacity of the weakest component in the system. The method you choose should suit your way of working.
Yes, provided the concrete blocks have been made using BETONBLOCK moulds. However, not every type of lifting equipment is suitable for every block size. Concrete block clamps, for example, have a specific clamping range, such as 80x80, 60x60 or 40x40, as well as a maximum load capacity. When using anchors, the anchor type, load capacity, position and other components of the lifting system must also be suitable for the particular concrete block. Always check in advance which combination is appropriate for the size and weight of your block.
A double lifting beam offers more options when you need to pick up concrete blocks or concrete slabs in both the lengthwise and widthwise directions. The double Betonblock® lifting beam has a second attachment point for this purpose and a maximum load capacity of 5,000 kg. The lifting beam you need depends on how you intend to pick up the block, which concrete block clamp you use and the permitted load capacity of the complete lifting system.
This depends on the lifting system you use. A concrete block clamp grips the outside of the cured concrete block and is connected to the lifting vehicle using a compatible lifting beam. In a system with lifting anchors, the anchors are positioned correctly in the concrete during pouring. Once the concrete has reached sufficient strength, a suitable lifting hook can be attached to the spherical head anchor. Always follow the product specifications and safety instructions for all lifting equipment being used.
The magnet holds the spherical head anchor in the desired position inside the steel concrete block mould before pouring. The spherical head anchor is connected to the magnet using the matching rubber sleeve. Place the magnet in the intended position and check that the anchor is correctly and securely positioned before pouring. The exact position of the lifting anchor is important for safely loading the finished block and must therefore be suitable for its weight, geometry and planned lifting arrangement.
A spherical head anchor is positioned in the concrete block mould before pouring and then cast into the concrete. An anchor magnet and rubber sleeve can be used to hold the anchor in place during pouring. The anchor must be adequately embedded in the concrete and positioned appropriately. Always determine the position and required anchor capacity based on the block weight, concrete strength, lifting configuration and specifications of the anchor system being used.
Two. The required number of lifting anchors cannot be determined by the weight of the block alone. The dimensions, centre of gravity, anchor positions, lifting angles, concrete strength and load per anchor also play a role. Always use the prescribed lifting and anchoring plan for the specific concrete block. Do not automatically assume, for example, that one 2.5T anchor is sufficient for a block weighing less than 2.5 tonnes. We therefore always recommend using two 2.5T anchors per block.
For concrete blocks 30 to 40 cm wide, you can use the CL40, provided the block does not weigh more than 2,000 kg. The CL60 has a range of 30 to 60 cm and a maximum load capacity of 2,500 kg. For blocks 40 to 80 cm wide, the CL80 is available with a maximum load capacity of 3,750 kg. Always check both the actual block width and its weight before selecting a clamp.
The magnet is reusable equipment and does not remain in the concrete block. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently and the block can be safely demoulded, you can remove the magnet from the steel mould and use it again. To remove it, screw the supplied bolt into the magnet. This releases the magnet from the mould.
A system with cast-in spherical head anchors requires more than just the anchors. A compatible magnet and rubber sleeve are used when casting the anchors into the concrete. For the actual lifting operation, you need a suitable universal lifting hook and lifting chain connected to a lifting device or vehicle with sufficient capacity. Always check that all components have compatible load capacities and inspect the lifting equipment for wear or damage before use.
