With the right handling equipment, heavy concrete blocks can be moved, rotated and positioned in a controlled manner. BETONBLOCK® offers solutions such as a rotator clamp and a concrete block turner. The best solution for your production process depends on how you want to move the concrete blocks. Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about handling equipment for concrete blocks.
Concrete blocks can be moved using different types of lifting and handling equipment. If you only need to lift and move a block, you can use suitable lifting equipment. If you need more control over the block's position while moving it, handling equipment such as a rotator clamp can be useful. The R1900 rotator clamp is connected to a suitable forklift and can grip, rotate and move concrete blocks around the site. Always check that the block's weight and dimensions are suitable for the equipment being used. The rotator can lift all stackable Lego concrete blocks made using BETONBLOCK moulds.
The load-bearing capacity varies from one concrete block to another. It depends on factors such as the concrete mix, concrete strength, dimensions, shape, any reinforcement present, the age of the concrete and how the block is loaded. The load-bearing capacity of the concrete block should therefore not be confused with the maximum lifting capacity of the handling equipment. For structural applications, it must always be determined whether the particular concrete block is suitable for the intended load.
First, determine what you want to do with the concrete block. If you want to grip, rotate and then move the block using a forklift, a rotator clamp is a suitable solution. If you want to tilt a block that was cast on its side through a controlled 90 degrees, you can use a concrete block turner. This must always be used in combination with a clamp. Also check the block's weight, dimensions and shape, and compare them with the specifications and permitted operating range of the handling equipment.
This depends on the type of handling equipment. The R1900 rotator clamp allows you to grip and rotate a concrete block and move it to another location on the site using a suitable forklift. The concrete block turner serves a different purpose and is specifically designed to tilt concrete blocks through a controlled 90 degrees. Handling equipment is not intended to serve as a standalone transport system for travel on public roads. Suitable transport vehicles that comply with legal requirements must be used for this purpose. Stackable Lego concrete blocks are often loaded onto a truck for transport on public roads.
Yes. Before use, always check the equipment's maximum lifting capacity, permitted operating range and technical specifications. For example, the R1900 rotator clamp has a maximum lifting capacity of 3,000 kg and is not intended for stacking concrete blocks. Also inspect the forklift, hydraulic connection and handling equipment before use, and always follow the supplied operating and safety instructions. Ensure that nobody is in the danger zone around the concrete block while it is being rotated, tilted or moved.
The weight, dimensions and shape largely determine which handling equipment is suitable. The block must be within the equipment's permitted operating range and lifting capacity, and it must be possible to grip or support it securely. A larger or heavier block may also place different demands on the forklift and hydraulic system. Unusual block shapes can also affect how the block is gripped and rotated. Therefore, always check the combination of concrete block, handling equipment and forklift before starting work.
Use a rotator clamp when you want to grip, rotate and move concrete blocks with a forklift. Its hydraulic rotation allows you to turn the block into the desired position while moving it. Use a concrete block turner when a block needs to be tilted in a controlled manner from its side to the correct position after demoulding. The BETONBLOCK® concrete block turner rotates the block through 90 degrees. The solution you need therefore depends primarily on the operation you want to perform on the concrete block after casting and demoulding.
