Betonblock® offers various lifting devices and compatible accessories for safely moving and positioning concrete barriers. The system includes, among other components, spherical head anchors, anchor magnets, rubber sleeves and universal lifting hooks. These components are available in 2.5T and 5T versions. The appropriate lifting system depends on factors such as the weight and dimensions of the barrier, the number of lifting points and the lifting method. Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about lifting equipment for concrete barriers.
The main difference is the load class for which the lifting system components are designed. Betonblock® offers spherical head anchors, anchor magnets, rubber sleeves and universal lifting hooks in 2.5T and 5T versions. The correct version must be selected based on the barrier, the load per lifting point and the complete lifting configuration. Always use components as a compatible system, and do not combine components from different load classes without checking their compatibility. The most commonly used system consists of 2.5T anchors. We also offer a 5T anchor system, which can only be ordered by contacting BETONBLOCK.
The most commonly used system consists of two 2.5T anchors. When choosing the right lifting device, you should consider more than just the total weight of the barrier. Its dimensions, shape, the position of the lifting points, the number of anchors and how the load is distributed across the lifting points during lifting are also important. In addition, the spherical head anchor, lifting hook and other system components must be compatible with one another. If you are unsure which 2.5T or 5T version is suitable for your barrier, it is advisable to have the lifting configuration assessed in advance and ask Betonblock® for advice.
The lifting point is prepared during the production of the barrier. An anchor magnet is placed in the mould, after which a rubber sleeve and the corresponding spherical head anchor are fitted. The anchor is then embedded in the concrete during pouring. The rubber sleeve provides sufficient clearance around the anchor head. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently, a suitable universal lifting hook can be connected to the embedded spherical head anchor to lift the barrier. Always follow the instructions for the lifting system being used and inspect the lifting points and lifting equipment before use.
Two 2.5T anchors are used for a standard barrier. The required number of lifting points cannot be determined solely by the length or total weight of a barrier. The shape and centre of gravity of the barrier, the position of the anchors, the strength and curing of the concrete, the lifting angles and the distribution of the load across the lifting points also play a role. Therefore, ensure that the number and position of the spherical head anchors are determined in advance for the specific barrier and the selected lifting method. If in doubt, do not rely on a general rule of thumb. Have a specialist determine the correct lifting configuration or ask Betonblock® for advice.
Some Betonblock® lifting devices, such as spherical head anchors, anchor magnets, rubber sleeves and universal lifting hooks, are available for multiple types of concrete elements. However, this does not mean that every lifting device is automatically suitable for every barrier or concrete block. Always check whether the component is compatible with the anchor system being used and suitable for the load, shape and lifting configuration of the concrete element. For example, do not use a concrete block clamp for a barrier unless it is explicitly suitable for that purpose. If you are unsure whether lifting equipment can be used interchangeably, check with Betonblock® beforehand.
A lifting system with embedded spherical head anchors requires several components that must be compatible with one another. Betonblock® offers spherical head anchors, anchor magnets, rubber sleeves and universal lifting hooks in 2.5T and 5T versions. The anchor magnet is used to hold the spherical head anchor in the correct position in the mould during pouring, while the rubber sleeve creates clearance around the anchor head so that the lifting hook can be attached after curing. Depending on the lifting method selected, suitable lifting chains or other lifting equipment may also be required. Always check that all components in the complete lifting configuration are compatible with one another and suitable for the load in question.
