For the safe lifting and positioning of concrete retaining walls, Betonblock® offers several lifting solutions. These include special retaining wall clamps with 3T and 5T capacities, as well as a system using anchor magnets, rubber grommets, spherical-head anchors and universal lifting hooks in 2.5T and 5T versions. The most suitable solution depends on factors such as the weight, dimensions and intended lifting method. Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about lifting equipment for retaining walls.
The main differences are lifting capacity and clamping range. The Betonblock® 3T retaining wall clamp has a maximum lifting capacity of 3,100 kg and weighs 35 kg. The 5T version is intended for heavier retaining walls and can lift up to 5,000 kg. It also has a larger clamping range and greater clamping depth.
The correct clamp depends on the weight and dimensions of the retaining wall. The 3T clamp may be suitable for elements within its permitted load range, while heavier or larger walls may require the 5T version. Always determine the actual weight of the concrete retaining wall before lifting and make sure it remains within the maximum capacity of the selected clamp.
The retaining wall clamp works mechanically and uses the weight of the concrete element to generate clamping force during lifting. This means no separate hydraulic connection is required. The clamp is positioned on the retaining wall and grips more firmly as the element is lifted. Before every lifting operation, check that the clamp is correctly positioned and that the contact surfaces can grip securely.
A retaining wall clamp is suitable when the finished concrete wall is to be gripped externally and moved directly. A spherical-head anchor system is incorporated into the wall during production. The cast-in anchors create defined lifting points to which compatible universal lifting hooks can be attached after the concrete has cured. The most suitable method depends on the production process, lifting operation and preferred handling method.
The anchor magnet is fixed inside the mould at the required position and holds the spherical-head anchor in place during casting. The rubber grommet creates the necessary clearance around the head of the anchor. The spherical-head anchor is then cast into the concrete retaining wall. Once the concrete has cured sufficiently, a compatible universal lifting hook can be connected to the anchor for lifting and positioning the wall.
The appropriate load class depends on the weight of the retaining wall, the number and position of lifting points and the way the load is distributed during lifting. Betonblock® offers anchor magnets, rubber grommets, spherical-head anchors and universal lifting hooks in 2.5T and 5T versions. Always use compatible components from the same suitable system class and make sure the complete lifting configuration is appropriate for the retaining wall.
