From waste to value: producing new concrete blocks from leftover concrete
Hagen has been active in the construction sector since 1899. What once started as shipping sand and gravel has since grown into a modern transport and concrete production company, led by the fourth generation: Ria and Robert Hagen. They took over the family business in 2009 and grew organically from 12 to 50 trucks, without external financing. Today, more than half of the fleet consists of concrete mixers supplying concrete to both large and small construction sites.
Yet for many years, leftover concrete was a problem. Every day, excess mix was dumped on-site and later crushed into aggregate. This meant full storage areas, additional transport and high processing costs. By investing in our concrete block molds, they changed this process. Hagen placed a large number of molds on their own site and fills them with leftover concrete at the end of the day. The blocks they produce this way are now sold as standard commercial products.
