Frequently asked questions about accessories for retaining wall moulds

With the right accessories, you can produce concrete retaining walls more cleanly and efficiently. BETONBLOCK® offers, among other things, release oil with an oil pump, a screed, a pressure washer, a spirit level and a concrete mixing bucket. These tools support mould preparation, concrete processing and finishing, and cleaning after demoulding. Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about accessories for retaining wall moulds.

Why should I apply release oil to a retaining wall mould and how do I apply it?

Release oil helps the hardened retaining wall separate more easily from the steel mould and helps prevent concrete residue from sticking to the mould. Before casting, apply a thin and even layer to the clean inside of the mould. A suitable oil pump allows you to distribute the release oil in a controlled manner. Do not use more oil than necessary, as an excessively thick layer can affect the concrete surface.

What is a screed used for when producing a retaining wall?

A screed is used to bring the freshly poured concrete to the required height and make the surface as even as possible. In doing so, you distribute or remove excess concrete along the top of the mould. A properly screeded surface makes further finishing easier and helps create a neat finish on the retaining wall.

Why must a retaining wall mould be level before I pour concrete?

A level mould helps distribute the fresh concrete evenly and produce a dimensionally accurate concrete element. If the mould is tilted, the concrete may distribute unevenly. Therefore, check with a spirit level before casting that the mould is positioned correctly and always use a stable and sufficiently level surface.

How and when should I clean my retaining wall mould with a pressure washer?

Preferably clean the mould shortly after demoulding, before any remaining concrete residue has fully hardened. A pressure washer helps remove dirt and adhering concrete residue from the steel surface. Pay particular attention to corners, edges and moving parts. Inspect the mould after cleaning and prepare it again before casting the next retaining wall.
